From the Superintendent

This is the first segment in a short series around the 2025-26 strategic priorities, which were approved by the MSAD 51 Board in early September. Below is a summary of these priorities:

Obviously, the One Campus project continues to be a major focus of the district, and will continue as such for the next two years as we complete the brick and mortar aspects of building a new PK-1 school and addition at MIW. But the physical part of the One Campus project is only part of the work ahead. Staff reassignments for the new grade span configurations that go into effect in 2027-28 are a critical focus this Fall. The switch to these new grade spans is less than two years away, shifting to PK-1 (new building), 2-4 (MIW), 5-8 (GMS), and 9-12 (GHS). 

It is important that our staff are given plenty of notice of their new assignments so we can begin the transition process later this Fall. Each future grade span as noted above will launch a transition team, headed by the applicable principal, at every level except high school. These teams (PK-1, 2-4 & 5-8) will include administrators, staff, and parents, and will be tasked with planning the details to ensure a smooth and seamless transition in August 2027.

Starting with the 2027-28 school year, below are the expected school principal reassignments:

PK-1 (new school): Cory Munsey
2-4 (MIW): Carol MacArthur
5-8 (GMS): Monte Selby
9-12 (GHS): Karl Francis

Next week, segment #2 will focus on new state legislation involving Pre-K, which goes into effect in 2027-28.

Last week a new tradition at MSAD #51 began - "Meeting in the Middle". GHS seniors and MIW kindergarteners gathered on the field on the yard line of their graduation year. Walking towards each other they met in the middle and the class of 2038 were presented with books and notes from the class of 2026.

Security Camera System

Please note that we have increased camera surveillance in our buildings, on school grounds, and inside/outside all school buses for safety purposes. We also have updated our policies around cameras and their permitted uses on school property and vehicles for your reference: ECAD Security Camera System.

Farm Face Collages

Don't miss the 5th-grade art display at the Cumberland Fair! Students in Mrs. Provencher's class learned about layers and texture to create these fun "Farm Face Collages." Using torn paper for a colorful background, oil pastels for expressive faces, and acrylics for fluffy fur or feathers, each animal has its own personality. What animals do you see? All meetings will take place at 6:00 pm in the Gyger Room at Greely High School.  For those of you unfamiliar with that room, the Gyger Room can be accessed from the GHS parking lot (the side without the electronic sign).
