Greely High School – Cumberland, ME

Greely High School in Cumberland, ME, has shown outstanding focus in mental health advocacy, thanks to the efforts of School Counselor Melissa Fowler, the advisor for one of the most active KyleCares Active Minds chapters in New England. Last spring, their "Mental Health Matters" road race drew 250 participants and raised an impressive $50,000 for mental health advocacy.

With over 79 students leading the charge, the group works under the motto "Smash the Stigma," prioritizing mental health across their school. They’ve organized mental health awareness games for all varsity sports teams and brought in young adult speakers to share stories of hope and recovery, helping to challenge stereotypes and promote understanding.

Greely’s commitment to student wellness extends beyond these efforts, with the district office identifying student well-being as a key priority in its foundation of learning and teaching. Under Melissa’s guidance, the school is actively creating a culture that empowers students to prioritize mental health and seek help when needed.

We proudly extend a $4,000 grant to Greely HS to help continue their social-emotional focus this fall.
