From the Superintendent
Over the last four weeks, we have offered a public virtual series around the new school and campus redesign project in order to provide more information about the overall school and campus design, turf field, curriculum/programming, and safety features. I wish to thank our guests who presented valuable information about these aspects of the project, including Architects Stephen Blatt and Doug Breer, Engineers Pat Carroll and Andy Johnston, Athletic Director David Shapiro, Dr. Steve Barr, Dr. Adam Wagner, Police Chief Chip Rumsey, Police Captain Mindy Coe, Officer Amie Owen, Officer Eric Bell, MIW Principal Cory Munsey, MIW Assistant Principal Mallory Orzechowski, Director of Instructional Support Julie Olsen, and Assistant Director of Instructional Support Carla Fancy.
Tonight, we will host the final segment that will dig into aspects of the project budget, the bond financing plan, and what it means for taxpayers. If you missed the previous sessions, you can view them below:

An aspect of the project that has exciting implications for student learning in the new PK-1 school is the concept of neighborhoods, or learning pods, consisting of four classrooms that are grouped together. The current school design includes six of these pods, with expansion capability to include two more pods, allowing the facility to feel smaller for our youngest students. This structure also allows teachers to collaborate more seamlessly within a smaller space with an attached small group room designed to accommodate small group support, projects, and academic interventions.

Jeff Porter
