Choices Matter Presentation Today

11th and 12th Grade GHS Students attended a presentation today sponsored by the Maine Bureau of Motor Safety.

The Choices Matter Program is on a mission to provide students and young adults with the opportunity to be educated on life-changing decisions, specifically highway safety decisions, that they may face in the future.  Their vision is to educate and inform as many students as they can about making the right decisions when it comes to impaired driving and wearing seatbelts.  Choices Matter strives to focus on supplying teens with the knowledge they need to keep themselves and others safe and healthy as they grow into adults and get behind the wheel.

The guest speaker highlighted his struggles with mental health, substance use and a series of poor decision making leading up to time in jail and a fatal car accident.  Following the presentation, students were able to interact with associated activities during their lunch.

Letters of Love - Card making event,

Join Us - April 27th from 10:30-11:30 in the GCA! Letters of Love, is a non profit organization that "has sent over 200,000 cards to patients in children's hospitals across the world." As a part of my SILO, I have become a volunteer at Maine Med, and first hand seen how meaningful cards are for patients. These cards can truly make someone's day. All cards created during this event will be distributed to patients at Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. Along with the cards that Greely students have created during their English Classes and during Advisory. Everyone is welcome to attend, however, kids 9 and under must have an adult help making their card. Here is the link to signup!

Parking Reminders

Unfortunately, Parking is limited at Greely High School. As a result, we need to be as organized as possible to facilitate logistics, access and safety to these spaces.  Please review the following details and support them with your students' request to drive to school.

  • 10th Graders ARE NOT permitted to park on campus at all, as there are not enough spaces to allow for this.
  • 11th & 12th Grade students w/ passes may park on campus in their assigned and numbered spots
  • 11th & 12th Graders who do not have parking passes, may utilize the overflow spaces at the outskirts of the middle school parking lot
  • NO students are permitted to park in any faculty lots, superintendent office lot, nor along the fence line of middle & elementary parking lots
  • Please see Mr. Francis, Mr. Gray, Ms. Hayes, or Officer Bell if you have any questions

Clarification on Parking Fundraiser Raffle:

We have had a few questions come up about this and wanted to be sure to clear up confusion.

  • This is a fundraiser for the junior class (Class of 2025).
  • Rising Juniors (current sophomores) are invited to purchase raffle tickets for a drawing to win ONE parking spot for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Students are not required to participate, but may do so in support of the junior class and as part of the fun of possibly winning the spot being raffled off.
  • GHS does not charge a fee for parking spaces and has no plans to in the future.
  • Whether or not students participate in the spring fundraiser raffle, they will have the opportunity to enter into the lottery in the fall where 70+ parking spaces are made available and assigned to students.
