From the Superintendent

porter It's hard to believe that the Year 2023 is coming to a close. As we look back on the highlights of our students in academics, athletics, and the arts, there is much to be proud of. It is encouraging that our school community continues to provide opportunities for each student to reach their "personal best." 2023 has also been a time of productive problem-solving in addressing some of the challenges facing our schools, such as voter approval of adjoining land to the campus, upgraded modular classrooms and play space at MIW, and continued work to secure our facilities for safety, among others. On January 2, I will be presenting the district's Annual Report to the Board of Directors with a look back at the highlights of the 2022-23 school year.

My very best wishes to all students, staff, and families during the upcoming winter break. Seasons Greetings and see you back in 2024!

December Break

We hope everyone has a happy and safe December break. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Pre-K Lottery

MSAD #51 (Cumberland-North Yarmouth) will continue its small public Pre-K Program for 32 students (16 each session).

The program will run half days (morning and afternoon session) four days per week (M, T, Th, F) for approximately 145 days during the school year. The program is located at Mabel I. Wilson school and is in partnership with Child Development Services.

In order to be considered, your child must be 4, but not 5, years old before October 15, 2024 and you must be a resident of Cumberland or North Yarmouth. If you are interested in your child being included in the Pre-K lottery, please fill out the interest application linked here no later than Friday, January 26, 2024. Screenings will take place in person at Mabel I. Wilson School for eligible children during the second week of February.

All meetings will take place at 6:00 pm in the Gyger Room at Greely High School. For those of you unfamiliar with that room, the Gyger Room can be accessed from the GHS parking lot (the side without the electronic sign).

The deadline each week is Sunday. Any requests received after Sunday will be reviewed for possible submission in the following week's newsletter. All approved submissions will be posted on the district's website.
