December Break

I don’t believe that you need a reminder but here it goes.  Greely High will be on December break from December 22nd through January 1st. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 2nd.  Enjoy your time.  We ask a lot of you and you deserve it!

Advisory Enrichment Sign Up

This is going to be fun.  Make sure that you sign up for an Advisory Enrichment Activity ASAP.

Students can now sign themselves up and have until Wednesday at Noon to do so.

Attendance

Please remember school starts at 7:50.  We have had an increase in unexcused   tardies over the past few weeks. Being late to class is very disruptive to the teacher and the rest of the class.

Lost & Found

Make sure you check lost and found before the break.  There are items on the rack by the commons and a few small items that were turned into the office.

Parent and Visitor Entrances

Reminder - the parent and visitor entrance is on Gyger Way (the gym/library side of the building).  If you are dropping off items for your student to pick up during the day or coming to dismiss them, please park in one of the three visitor spots in front of the library.  The office staff will greet you at the window after you enter the first set of doors.

Senior Superlatives

Yearbook staff is working hard to produce the best yearbook possible.  Seniors -  please get your votes ASAP using this link. You’ll need to sign up for the GHS Senior Yearbook Submissions Classroom to do so.

  • To add - simply go to your google classrooms tile and click the + sign to add the classroom and code to access and vote: dxjfhxl

GNN 10 Does it Again!

Thank you GNN 10 for another great video.  Check it out Greely High School: GNN 10

Sandy Hook Promise Hotline

MSAD#51 has partnered with the Sandy Hook Promise organization to provide students in Grades 6-12 the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System.  This system is described as enabling students to anonymously report an issue 24/7/365 through an app, hotline, or website when they see a classmate who is at risk of harming themselves or others.

GHS team members include: Don Gray, Jackie Hayes, Peter Scott, Johnna Mulligan and Eric Bell.

Student Training - Student Training will take place on March 11th (1 Hour) Details include a video and activity.  Logistics to be determined.

From Profe Giuliano’s Classroom

In Profe Giuliano's Spanish 3 classes at GHS, students have been learning about Guatemala, immigration, and Día de los Difuntos.  One of our projects was inspired by the giant kites that are made in Guatemala.  Students designed their kites around a theme that they care about.  They wrote messages in Spanish and included elements to visually represent their message making the kite more comprehensible to all viewers.  They really enjoyed flying their kites outside!

Stewardship, Ecological Design, and Gardening Club

The GHS Stewardship, Ecological Design, and Gardening Club meets after school on Thursdays.  We also do hands-on, outdoor projects around campus during Advisory/Enrichment time.  Recently, we used all repurposed materials to build a cold frame to house our stratified seeds for the winter.  With the support of our partner Nell Houde at the Wild Seed Project, we have collected wild seeds on campus.  Students continue to practice the art of observation, identify plants and animal tracks, and clean and process seeds.  Students are working on designing more resilient, biodiverse areas on campus.  All are welcome to join! Reach out to Gennifer Giuliano for more information.

January Midterms

GHS will be holding Midterms this year during the week of January 16-19, 2024.  I wanted to start communicating with families as our 9th grade families haven’t experienced them yet.  Students - please start to discuss with your teachers as they will be providing all of the specific content and assessment related details.  Some details below.  More to be provided.

Schoolwide things to know

  • 2 Blocks/Assessments a day - 8 blocks over 4 days
  • Exam 1 - 7:50-9:20 AM  Exam 2 - 9:35-11:05 AM
  • Make Up / Support 11:35-2:20 PM

  • Students only required to be here during assigned assessment block
  • Transportation running at regular route times

Can We? Project

Greely students are taking part in Third Thought's Can We? Project this year and just attended a retreat in Augusta with over 200 Maine students. The project, which aims to take on the task of revitalizing democracy through conversation has proven meaningful for the students who are participating, and the opportunity to meet other invested students throughout the state has been a favorite aspect of this program so far. The program helps students practice making personal decisions while considering other perspectives, an invaluable skill in our world today.
